Neighbors help offset insurance deductible for Alling Park playground replacement
Oct 30, 2009

The South End Neighborhood Council surprised board members with a check for $400 during the community celebration for the replacement of the Alling Park playground equipment that was destroyed by arson this summer. The donation will be used to help offset the $5,000 insurance deductible Metro Parks incurred on the claim for the replacement equipment.
"We are so appreciative of the partnered role the South End Neighborhood Council has played not only through the provision of this donation," said Metro Parks President Victoria Woodards, "but also for the five year fundraising effort they undertook to provide the original equipment for this special park."
The original equipment purchased by the South End Neighborhood Council and donated to the park District was destroyed by vandals just 12 weeks after the completion of the 2005 Park Improvement Bond renovations at Alling earlier this year. Metro Parks staff worked with the neighborhood council to quickly replace the equipment in order to get out ahead of potential weather issues that might result in lengthy delays in restoring the playground.
