Lace up your shoes and take a "quietly wild" trek in the heart of the city. You may hear the honking of Canada geese and the peculiar twitter of the wood duck as you explore this 70-acre wetland habitat. Tread carefully and you might catch sight of a red fox, raccoon, great blue heron or other wildlife.
Pick up a self-guiding booklet in the Visitor Center to help you learn about the natural and human history of the area while you explore along the two-mile path. Discover animals close-up in the Center's exhibit area. Join in exciting nature programs for youth, adults or families.
If you feel your curiosity going a little wild, talk to the staff about all the things you and your family can do at this unique nature preserve which includes:- 66 Parkland Acres
- 5 Maintained Acres
- Nearly two miles of Soft Surfaced Trails
- One half mile outdoor access route for wheelchairs
Thank you Tacoma voters! On Nov. 8, 2005 Tacoma voters showed their support for their parks by passing the $84.3 million park improvement bond. Planned projects that will benefit the Tacoma Nature Center and Snake Lake include: reconstruction of the footbridge, perimeter fencing, improving barrier-free accessibility, lake clean-up, general building improvements, interpretive signage and educational exhibits.
