Funding

Funding for Metro Parks Tacoma services comes from a combination of earned revenue, property tax, sales tax, money from the City of Tacoma and grants.

  • In 1999, Tacoma voters supported a $35 million bond measure to pay for renovations and new exhibits at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.
  • In 2000, Pierce County voters approved a one-tenth of one percent sales tax increase to maintain the new exhibits as well as support park projects in all cities and towns throughout the county.
  • In 2005, Tacoma voters supported an $84.3 million capital bond measure to pay for improvements to 61 parks.
