Park Bond Overview

Thank you Tacoma! The Metro Parks Tacoma $84.3 million bond measure has passed with 62.38% of the votes. (Certificate of Election) That means Tacoma citizens can look forward to plenty of activity in their parks in the coming years.

In the past, MPT managed an average of five to seven capital projects per year. In 2006, the first year for implementation of the 2005 Park Bond Program, the number of active capital projects at MPT increased to approximately 35. With so many capital projects under way, MPT has formalized a standard format for carrying out planning, design and construction activities that also allows opportunities for review, comment and involvement by a wide range of individuals and groups.

In addition to the park projects listed below, the 2005 Park Bond Program included seven categories of capital funding that are general - Athletic Field Upgrades/Conversions; Environment, Greenspace, and Natural Areas: Land Acquisition and Development Program; Off-Leash Park Development; Reforestation Program; Skate Board Parks; and Trail Improvement Program. A Funding Plan has been prepared by MPT to serve as a guide when assigning funds from those categories to specific capital projects.
