Approved by the Metro Parks Board in February 2008, the Planning Guide for Point Defiance Park is a comprehensive document consisting of several smaller documents including the draft concept plans from the three planning areas, site-wide and site-specific plans, as well as general planning documents.

Subsequent to the draft subdocuments being assembled, the Draft Planning Guide had its own public process to receive public input and to resolve any conflicts between documents. The Guide also serves as the basis for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
