SERA-Field Upgrade Project

In coordination with the School District's construction of a new Gray Middle School on the site of the former Mount Tahoma High School, improvements to the Purple and Orange Fields at SERA have been modified to better serve the athletic needs of the School District. This was undertaken in lieu of the School District constructing a separate and duplicate facility on adjoining property that is also being looked at as part of the program for the future South Tacoma Community Center/Boys & Girls Club. In addition, this upgrade will provide additional flexibility for Metro Park programs including the opportunity to lease the complex for summer baseball tournaments.

The project consisted of converting two fields from softball to baseball dimensions which included relocating outfield light poles and fences to conform to High School Baseball standards, expanding the infields to accommodate 90' bases and 60'6" pitching distance, irrigation system upgrades, installation of dugouts and bullpens, portable pitching mounds and backstop modifications.

Budget: $250,000 (from Tacoma Public Schools)

Maintenance & Operations Impact Forecast:
- Increased time to set-up/take down the portable pitching mounds
- Increased time to drag and prep larger skinned infield areas
