Location
801 N Mason Ave. / N 9th at N Monroe St.

Parking: Visitors to the Jefferson Park field house are requested to park on North 9th Street and avoid using the service road that runs near the children's playfields.  Parking is still available adjacent to the building for persons displaying an official disabled parking pass.

What's Planned for Your Park
Resurface basketball court, pathway upgrades, new sprayground (playground with water features), furnishings, landscape enhancements.

Budget
The Parks Improvement Bond Measure, approved by the citizens of Tacoma in November of 2005, provides $525,000 in total for this park.
- $28,223 went toward Playground Equipment ('opening' was June 23, 2006)
- Additional $75,000 from Contingency Funds (01/12/07) for Ultra Violet treatment for sprayground
Total Funding for sprayground and park renovation: $571,777
(2006 - $175,000 / 2007 - $350,000) 

Project Status
12/30/08 Vandals tore up newly installed turf on the playfields at Stewart Heights and Portland Avenue Parks this week and caused similar damage at Jefferson Park, another site where bond improvements had already been completed as well as Optimist and Fern Hill Parks.

Completed Projects:
Reforestation Program - Project Completed! 03/15/08
Jefferson Park had 12-15 trees planted in the vicinity of the new layground and sprayground.

Budget
The Parks Improvement Bond Measure, approved by the citizens of Tacoma in November of 2005, provides $300,000 for a district wide reforestation program. $48,000 was assigned to work being done at Jack Hyde Park, Jefferson Park and McKinley Playfield.

03/28/08 Tree planting work is now complete and the project should be ready for closure in about two to three weeks.

07/20/07 The design was reviewed by the CPG on June 29, 2007. Plant materials are being procured.

M&O Cost Analysis for Spraygrounds - (03/07/08) Following our first year of operation of the new sprayground and comparing it to previous wading pool operations, we show overall operating cost to be nearly the same but the level of service to be higher with spraygrounds.
- water costs are significantly reduced for the recalculating spraygrounds, but much of this is offset with higher electrical energy costs
- spraygrounds are shown to have slightly higher labor impact on Parks staff but a corresponding labor reduction for Recreation staff (the elimination of lifeguards needed by wading pools)
- spraygrounds are open for a greater period of time each day and the season runs longer than wading pools / this added to a generally higher average attendance accounts for the significantly lower cost per person for spraygrounds ($1.28 per person) vs. wading pools ($3.84 per person)
