We have truly appreciated everyone's comments and suggestions so far and have considered them as we develop the final planting plan for Phase 1 of the slope landscape transition at Point Defiance Park.
Please attend the Open House on Nov. 19th to get (or continue to be) involved in the process!
About the landscaping project:
As part of our efforts to enhance the environment through reduced carbon emissions, limited use of fertilizers and wise water usage, Metro Parks Tacoma is working to convert areas of low value turf to sustainable habitats of native and Northwest climate adapted plants.
This fall, crews are beginning the conversion of the steeply sloped hillside at Point Defiance Park, located at the Pearl street exit. The work has been scheduled to coincide with remediation work currently underway in the Bowl, to limit the amount of time the public will be affected by construction.
Phase 1 will include conversion of the property on the eastern portion of the hill.
Phase 2 improvements will complete the hillside conversion, creating a natural transition to the park's Native Garden.
Funding for this work is provided through the 2005 Park Improvement Bond's Environment, Greenspace and Natural Areas Enhancement funding category.
