Bond Park Improvement Projects
History of this Park
| Community Based Mural Project |

In the summer of 2010, the restroom at this location was identified as an ideal location to become the training site for the mural initiative, as well as the first completed project.

Five local muralists trained 20 artists to become muralists as part of the initiative. Following training, the artists will be paired with communities to create six additional murals throughout the East Side, South End, South Tacoma and Hilltop.

The Portland Avenue community expressed the desire to have a mural theme that depicted fantasy and imagination, while projecting positivity and hope. Each side of the building graphically represents a team of muralists, but all contain color and theme consistency.

Special thanks to Amy McBride, City of Tacoma Arts Administrator, and Metro Parks staff including Tareena Joubert, marina Becker, Vito Iacobazzi, and Ron Peart for their collaboration on this exciting project. Lead Artists: Rachael Dotson, Jeremy Gregory, Joni Joachims, Kelda Martenson and Chris Sharp.
