Old Town Dock (2123 Schuster Pkwy.)
07/28/08 Old Town Dock has been closed after an inspection by city crews found structural concerns with the wharf. The decking is deteriorating and the structure lacks a handrail which makes it unsafe for pedestrian use. Improvements to the dock, which is managed by Metro Parks, are included in the city's facility plan but aren't yet funded. Questions? Contact City of Tacoma Public Works - Jeff Jenkins, Division Manager, 253-591-5508 or Justin Doris, Intern, 253-591-5449.
Tie your small boat up to the Old Town Dock and stroll along Ruston Way. Picnic tables are available next to the dock and restrooms at nearby Dickman Mill Park. You can also fish from the dock; there is a covered shelter and several benches.
Les Davis Pier (3427 Ruston Way)
Les Davis Pier offers a great place to fish with fantastic views of Commencement Bay. With easy access to concessions and a skate rental shop in the summer, the ADA accessible site offers picnic tables as well as covered shelters and benches on the pier. Divers often use this as a starting point - it's the site of an artificial reef. There are restrooms near the pier. Les Davis Pier is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week year round for fishing. During the summer months the gate to the parking lot may be locked overnight to prevent problems with cars and people gathering there. (Open at 6 am and closed around 9 pm.) The use of portable barbecues or any other flammables on the pier is strictly prohibited.
Dash Point Pier/Park (1500 Beach Dr. NE)
Dash Point Park offers splendid views of Puget Sound to the north and northeast toward Seattle. Picnic facilities and 300 feet of beach make the park a pleasant and relaxing place. Launch kayaks and canoes with ease. An "L" shaped pier extending 300 feet out into the sound with 100 feet of pier at the end provides lots of room for fishing and crabbing.
