Washington Poet Laureate Sam Green
"Showcase Tacoma is honored to welcome Washington's first state poet laureate Sam Green, a native of Washington and a distinguished poet and author. His latest collection of works, The Grace of Necessity, was published this year. Since being named poet laureate, Green has traveled and taught extensively in an effort to promote the art of poetry."
Tacoma Poet Laureate William Kupinse
"In April 2008, William Kupinse was named 2008 Urban Grace Poet Laureate of Tacoma. An associate professor of English at University of Puget Sound, Kupinse will spend this year performing and promoting poetry as the first Tacoma poet laureate."

Carmen Sterba
Upon returning to the USA in 2004 - after living, studying and teaching in Japan for 30 years - Carmen volunteered for and was elected as the Secretary of the Haiku Society of America for 2005 and 2006. She was also asked to appear on a panel that discussed the art of teaching haiku at Haiku North America in 2005. In 2006, Carmen gave several haiku readings at the Haiku Garden in Seattle and one reading at Haiku Canada in Vancouver, B.C.
Eileen Elliott

Kali Kucera
New South Sound Mythology: Original fables in the old story spinning tradition
Do you know Vashon has a hidden village? How did Tacoma's Strawberry Hill really get its name? The City Council Chambers have trap doors to where? Storyteller Kali Kucera spins new and evocative tales in the ancient tradition of crafting mythology to appreciate the world around us. Come imagine yourself around the campfire or sitting in the skiff as you hear dramatic and colorful fables about local places and personalities.

Richard Donin
"Richard A. Donin was born in Portland and educated at Portland State University and Lewis and Clark College. He is an educator and a professional writer. He has been writing poetry for 25 years, but "Voices from the Void" is the first collection of his poems. Donin's poems center on the everyday things of life and the thoughts that come to each person."

Christopher Luna is a poet, visual artist, and performer with an MFA in Writing and Poetics from the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. His articles and criticism have appeared in Rain Taxi Review of Books, the Poetry Project Newsletter, Current Biography, the Columbian, the Oregonian, Willamette Week, the Vancouver Voice, Crave magazine, the Colorado Daily, and the Boulder Planet. http://www.covertocoverbooks.net
Diane Cammer
Diane Cammer is a member of two poetry critique groups and has taught First Thursday Poetry Workshops in Vancouver, WA. She recently completed writing her first Sci-Fantasy novel, Keystone. Diane was born in Binnewater, New York, worked in advertising in Manhattan, broke code in the Army in Munich and photographed costume jewelry in Moose Jaw (Canada). A perfect day is one spent writing, or hiking with her husband and three daughters in the Northwest.
Join River and Sound Review for their next tour production at Showcase Tacoma on Friday, August 8 at 5:00 p.m. in UW Tacoma's Carwein Auditorium. For this show, they are proud to welcome Spokane writer Jess Walter, author of "Citizen Vince" and "The Zero," which was a finalist for the 2006 National Book Award. Joining him will be William Kapinse, poet laureate of Tacoma, and musical guest Scott Andrew.
They will also feature their trademark audience participation trivia game shows, Name That Book and Head to Head Shakespeare Trivia Challenge. Admission is FREE!
