Dogs will rule the pool at the Pooch Pool Party
First annual End-of-season Stewart Heights event allows pool access to pups
Aug 31, 2009
The Pooch Pool Party is September 12
Dog owners looking for a fun way to socialize with their pets can treat their furry friends to a dip in Stewart Heights Pool from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, September 12.
Pool party participants can paddle around with other dogs, lunge through the Lazy River, splash in the sprayground, and easily get in and out of the water using the zero-depth entry. The Pool Party is for dogs only; humans will be asked to watch from the deck.
“The pool party provides dog owners and their pets a unique experience after the pool closes for the season. It’s great to be able to put this park asset to a different use before it’s drained and cleaned for the winter,” remarked Jim Biles, Aquatics Supervisor.
Dog owners are asked to bring well-socialized dogs only to this event and to leave dog toys at home. Leashes are required when dogs are out of the water. Pool staff will provide scoop bags.
Stewart Heights’ last day for public swimming is Monday, September 7. Later that week Metro Parks’ staff will turn off the pool chemicals to minimize irritation for the dogs and will drain and clean the pool after the event.
Admission is limited to two dogs per person. Entry fee is $5 for the first dog, $3 for the second dog and humans are admitted free of charge. Entry may be limited if pool reaches capacity.
Stewart Heights Pool is located at 402 E 56th St. and features a 160 foot water slide, lazy river, bubble pool, water play structure, water basketball and tumble buckets. Not all pool features will be available for dog use. The shallow end features a zero depth entry where the pool bottom slopes like a beach. The maximum depth of the pool is 4 feet, 3 inches.
