Free movies, concerts in Tacoma parks this August

Jul 27, 2010

Grab a blanket, family and friends and head outside for Summer Sounds and Cinema--an August tradition in Tacoma! Enjoy free family-friendly concerts and movies presented by Metro Parks Tacoma every Saturday.

The fun begins at 7 pm on Saturday, August 7 at Manitou Park in South Tacoma. Woodstock-era cover band Magic Bus brings to life the hits of the 60s and 70s. From the Rolling Stones to The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix to The Doors, this vintage cover band will keep the audience moving.

Stick around after the concert for the movie The Blindside, rated PG-13. Sandra Bullock gives her Academy Award winning performance in this charming rags to riches story about football player Michael Oher. This movie has been described as a heartwarming, fun and emotional film that even non-football fans will appreciate.

Each week the event moves to a new location and features a different genre of music followed at dusk by the movie of the night. Seating is on the lawn so attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or a folding chair.
