Ocean Friendly Restaurants
Plastic pollution is suffocating our ocean and the animals and birds who call it home. It’s up to humans to solve the problem – and restaurants can have a big impact. How food is served and packaged can greatly reduce the plastic that ends up in the ocean, and can change people’s awareness and behavior.
What’s it about?
The Ocean Friendly Restaurants program, supported by Surfrider Foundation, Pierce Conservation District, and Metro Parks Tacoma/Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, is a way for restaurant owners to learn about and commit to ocean-friendly actions in their business. It’s also a way for customers to support those restaurants, and learn about the big issue.
What do I have to do?
You can qualify by making some simple changes to food service practices, such as eliminating plastic bags and finding alternatives to polystyrene foam or plastic straws. See the Surfrider registration page for more details.
Why should I join in?
Apart from helping solve one of the biggest threats to our ocean, you’ll show your commitment to protecting our environment. You’ll become a community role model, and bring in more customers who value sustainability.
Of course, you could do this on your own. But by joining Ocean Friendly Restaurants, you’ll get lots of support.
