Charlotte’s Blueberry Park volunteers presented with Parks Champion Award

The five-member Board of Park Commissioners presented the Parks Champion Award to Sandra Ford, Corina and Kevin Going, Anthony Bradley, Gloria Morehouse, Cheryl Little, Wendi and Juan Villagomez, and Kristyn Moss during the Park Board meeting on Feb. 10, 2020.

These volunteers were honored for their work to create a safe and healthy place for the neighbors around Charlotte’s Blueberry Park to enjoy and connect to nature, and restore ecological functions in critical areas of the park as well as for their leadership and commitment to community service.

In a proclamation expressing its appreciation, the Park Board noted that these community leaders have proven to be outstanding, collaborative champions for parks and recreation services that improve the lives of their community and beyond.

Metro Parks Tacoma created the Parks Champion Award in 2017 to honor individuals and organizations that support the park district’s mission to create healthy opportunities to live, work and play.

The previous honorees are:

  • The Bamford Foundation
  • Former Mayor Marilyn Strickland
  • State Sen. Steve Conway
  • State Rep. Jake Fey
  • Former School Board Director (and current City Councilmember) Catherine Ushka
  • Former City Councilmember (and current County Councilmember) Marty Campbell
