Heritage Skills Workshop - Basketry

Saturday, February 16 (10:00am - 2:00pm)

Judy Bridges, a member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe, will lead a hands-on workshop in which participants construct a small roundish basket using cedar bark, sweet grass and raffia.  It will include the following techniques, plaiting, twining, triple twining and include a twined off rim. (Experience with twining helpful.)

Judy is descended from five fur traders and their Native American wives. Judy's baskets use both traditional and modern materials. She took up basketry in the early 1990s, studying with both native and non-native teachers. She has been teaching and demonstrating basketry for nearly two decades. Bring your own sack lunch.
