Family Fun Night
Friday, July 15 (6:00pm - 9:00pm)
Time-tested family fun!
Families are invited to bring their own picnic dinner to Fort Nisqually, located in Point Defiance Park, and join in games, dancing, and relay races with the Fort’s re-enactors during Family Fun Night, July 15, 6-9 p.m.
“The candy cannon is definitely the highlight of the evening,” said Event Coordinator Chris Erlich. “But there is plenty of other old-fashioned fun.”
The candy cannon shoots saltwater taffy through the air. Kids (and if they are lucky, the adults) are invited to scrabble across the meadow to gather some up.
Families can also:
- Follow a scavenger hunt through the fort and learn to play 19th century games such as hoop and graces.
- Participate in a three-legged race, a sack race or a cup and plate race. In the cup and plate race participants race while trying to keep water in a cup on a plate on their head. Ribbons will be awarded in the various races.
- Icecream and lemonade will be served, while supplies last.
All of the Fort’s historic buildings and grounds will be open, with re-enactors in period clothing interpreting the history of the fort. Kids visit the kitchen garden, see the chickens scooted into their coop for the night, and visit with trappers, traders, and ladies from the 19th century.
