Four companies, one mission: To share dance with the community.

The Metro Arts Dance Companies are designed for students who are passionate about performing and would like to spend more time dancing during the week. Company students are ones who show dedication in their technique classes through consistent attendance, serve as role models for students in their classes and who have the desire to dive deeper into dance. While most students enrolled in Metro Arts classes take technique 2-3 times a week, these students set themselves apart by taking at the very least 3 hours of class per week.

Company rehearsals are the time students spend learning choreography for the additional dances they perform in for Winter Arts Showcase and the Spring Production. In addition to learning dance, company time is focused on setting that fun, positive, team building and engaging learning environment that is so critical to developing youth. Because these groups spend so much time in classes and rehearsals together, it is a great way for students to bond with their peers who share the same passion for dance.

Mini Company: 6 - 8 Y

Mini Company students are required to take Mini Company Rehearsal and Ballet 2 days/week, with one of the required days being a Monday and the other a Saturday, at Tacoma School of the Arts. This particular ballet class backs up to the company rehearsal time, which is more convenient for parents and children. It is also suggested these students register for the 6-8 year old jazz class on Monday nights at Tacoma School of the Arts, but it is not a requirement. Registration is open Fall Session 1 and Winter Session 2. There is not an audition to be part of this group, but parent conference and teacher recommendation is necessary to ensure the student is ready to take that next step.

Junior Company: 9 - 12Y

Junior Company students are required to take the Junior Company Rehearsal, Intermediate 8-12Y Ballet (2 days/week), and Jazz classes. All required classes are held at Tacoma School of the Arts. Many of these students opt to enroll in tap or hip-hop in addition to the required classes. Junior Company students are required to either take the One Week Summer Dance Intensive or weekly classes during the summer as part of their company commitment. During the Dance Intensive Camp instructors will gauge students over the course of a week and also take a practice audition during the camp, or to audition during the last week of August in a more traditional audition setting. Teacher recommendation is valued highly when considering placement for these students within the company. Audition is required.
