Dune concert 9-7-19 Vertical Horizon

Celebrate the new Wilson Way bridge and Dune Peninsula at Point Defiance Park with family-friendly activities and a FREE concert on the Cambia Legacy Lawn.

Event features a beer-and-wine garden along with food trucks offering food and beverage for purchase. Beer garden opens at Noon. Seating begins at Noon. No tickets required, this is a free event!

Performance by Vertical Horizon. Opening band: Dedset.

Parking and Transportation

Visitors are encouraged to:

  • Participate in Downtown to Defiance and come to the park via human-powered options. Bike parking will be available on Dune Peninsula.
  • Ride Pierce Transit to the event
  • Carpool

Parking

Those who are coming by car are encouraged to come via Pearl Street to avoid the lane closures associated with Downtown to Defiance on Ruston Way and Schuster Parkway.

Free parking, while it lasts, is available in three locations:

  • Lot B, a small lot to the left of the ferry lane.
  • The new multi-purpose parking lot to the right of the ferry terminal (below the Wilson Way pedestrian bridge).
  • A temporary gravel lot next to the multipurpose lot.

Paid parking is available at Point Ruston on a first come, first serve basis.

9 am-2 pm: 7th annual Downtown to Defiance

This free, family-friendly event is for people walking, bicycling, skateboarding, scootering, rollerblading – whatever human-powered travel mode you can imagine – to experience the beautiful Tacoma waterfront for five miles unencumbered by cars. One lane of Ruston Way and Schuster Parkway will be closed to vehicle traffic.

Activities along the route include:

  • Make and take art, Gaga ball, Bubble soccer, Pickleball, Children’s obstacle course, Pop-up skate park, Adaptive cycles, and nature activities from Tacoma Nature Center staff.
  • 10:30 am Artists Walking Tour: Artists Adam Kuby and Nichole Rathburn will lead a walking tour of Dune Peninsula to share the process and inspiration behind two new artworks, Alluvion and Little Makers. Learn more the artwork

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I get tickets?

  • The concert on September 7, 2019  is free. Tickets are not required for entry. VIP tickets will be available and may be purchased at www.eventbrite.com

Can I purchase a VIP ticket for my child?

  • VIP tickets are available for adults ages 21 and older.

What can I bring to Cambia Legacy Lawn Concerts?

  • The following items are allowed in the concert area:
    • Coolers (up to 24″ wide x 36″ long), food items (non-glass containers only), and empty reusable non-glass water bottles.
    • Blankets and beach towels, no more than 5′ in length or width. Depending on attendance, you may be asked to
    • limit the footprint of your blanket.
    • Low-backed beach chairs (seat 12″ or lower from the ground and height 28″ or lower)
    • Umbrellas when it’s raining
    • Baby bottles/formula
    • Reusable non-disposable water bottles.
  •     The following items are NOT allowed:
    • Alcoholic beverages of any kind.
    • Reusable non-glass water bottles are allowed.
    • Glass containers, wine glasses or glass dishes.
    • Standard height or high-backed patio or beach chairs (seat higher than 12″ from the ground and/or back taller than 28″)
    • BBQs/grills
    • Coolers that exceed 24″ x 36″ in width/length
    • Blankets or towels that exceed 5′ in width/length
    • Weapons of any kind
    • Pets (except service animals)
    • Canopies, tents, and tables (folding or otherwise)

How big is the venue?

  • The Cambia Legacy Lawn has a capacity of 3,500.

Will artist and venue merchandise be sold at the venue?

  • It is up to each of the artists to provide their merchandise to be sold. Most, but not all, artists travel with merchandise . There will be venue merchandise available.

What happens if it rains?

  • Concert will be held rain or shine. If it looks like rain, you should be prepared. See next question.

Can we bring umbrellas?

  • Rain umbrellas will be allowed while it’s raining. People bringing shade umbrellas will be moved to the back of the venue.

Can we put up a shade umbrella, tent, or awning?

  • People bringing shade umbrellas will be moved to the back of the venue. Tents and awnings are not allowed. Nothing can be staked into the ground on Dune Peninsula.

How do I get to the Cambia Legacy Lawn?

  • The Cambia Legacy Lawn is located on Dune Peninsula at Point Defiance Park. The address is 5361 Yacht Club Rd, Tacoma, WA 98407. Only VIP ticket holders and those with ADA parking permits will be allowed to park at the venue. For a map and additional information regarding parking can be found on this web page.

Can I bring my own chair?

  • Yes, if you are outside the VIP Section seating is on the lawn. Please bring a blanket or a low beach chair to use within designated areas of the venue.

What is the camera policy?

  • Most artists’ contracts either prohibit cameras altogether or prohibit the use of cameras with flash bulbs, and professional type cameras. The MAJORITY OF CONTRACTS absolutely forbid any type of recording devices, audio or video. By attending a concert, you agree that any media can be confiscated and become the property of the artist.

Can I bring my pet?

  • No. Pets are not permitted in the concert venue except for licensed service animals.

Can we bring a picnic?

  • Yes, you may bring your own food into the venue, but you may NOT bring in any glass containers including condiment jars. Coolers up to 24″ wide by 36″ long are allowed to pack your food items, but rolling carts, wagons etc. are not permitted.

Can we bring food and drinks into the venue?

  • Yes, you may bring your own food into the venue, but you may NOT bring in any glass containers including condiment jars. Non-alcoholic beverages can be brought in. Beer, wine, food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

Is it okay to bring my own beer or wine?

  • No outside alcoholic beverages (sealed or unsealed) are allowed at Cambia Legacy Lawn Concerts. Beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

Are there safety services?

  • Either Tacoma or Ruston police officers will be on site at all times for your safety and protection.

Can I bring a portable grill or cooking device?

  • No barbecue grills or cooking devices of any kind are allowed inside the venue.

Is smoking permitted?

  • The Cambia Legacy Lawn is a non-smoking venue. Additionally, no smoking is permitted anywhere within Tacoma’s parks.
