Metro Parks Tacoma has applied to change the land use designation of the Heidelberg-Davis sports complex from the “Parks and Open Space” designation to “Major Institutional Campus” on the Future Land Use Map. This change would allow the development of a proposed soccer stadium in partnership with other community organizations, along with accessory uses.
• The proposed designation would allow for Major Institutional Campus complexes such as office, educational and health care.
• The site is adjacent to Cheney Stadium and Foss High School, both of which are already designated Major Institutional Campus.
• The concept is preliminary and subject to change.
A joint venture between the Tacoma Rainiers and Seattle Sounders FC is working with Metro Parks and the City of Tacoma on a concept that includes building a soccer stadium near Cheney Stadium and a commercial/residential development between the two stadiums.
The parties remain in negotiation. In the meantime, Metro Parks applied for change so the project can be built if negotiations are successful. Get more information about the project.
Note: The purpose of the Nov. 4 meeting is to hear public comment on the proposed land use designation change.
