Warrior Recovery and Veteran Integration Programs

More than 31,000 military personnel have sustained severe physical injuries in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Tacoma and Pierce County have a thriving veteran population and Metro Parks Tacoma, Adaptive Recreation is dedicated to serve them and provide opportunities.

Our team is focused on serving veterans along with active duty military. We specialize in bringing them together along with civilians in our programs to create a very inclusive community. We strive to support each other and grow!
Through the Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) Warrior Transition Battalion, we partner and provide the Phoenix Adaptive Sports program's aid and expertise in the physical training of ill, injured, and wounded soldiers who are on their personal path back to active duty, or to being released.
We work closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs through the Seattle and American Lake locations providing community based programs to get veterans physically engaged with their families, friends and communities.

Soldiers have the opportunity to participate in such activities as archery, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair basketball, kayaking, cycling, track & field, and air pistol/rifle target shooting. Training for the National Warrior Games, Veteran Wheelchair Games and Valor Games goes on year round.
