  • Fall Fishing Instruction  
    Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018; 10 am-12 pm; Ages 15+
    Learn basic fundamentals of fishing to include types of equipment, tackle, rigging, knot tying, casting, and landing a fish. Also learn fish identification, safety tips, and regulations. Parents may sign up with youth. A great way to learn together basic fishing skills and opportunities to enjoy this family sport. Cost $15. Must pre-register. Class size is limited.

    Learn safety, launching and returning a boat to a trailer, driving a trailer, and general maintenance and upkeep for trailers. Cost $20. Must pre-register. Class size is limited.
  • BOATER EDUCATION CARDboater education card
    Everyone under 60 years old must complete an approved Washington Boater Education Course, pass a test and purchase their card in order to operate any watercraft with 15 horsepower or greater on Washington waters. Learn more >

    presented by Tacoma Power Squadron
    The instruction given in this public paddling class course is the best way to learn kayaking safety. Tacoma Power Squadron will provide class room instruction and an hour of kayak rental to practice these skills at Owen Beach Kayak Rentals. Participants will receive (2 ) books as well. Introduction to Paddling and The Complete Sea Kayaker's Handbook.
    Cost $50. Must pre-register. Class size is limited.

  • Crabbing in Puget Sound Class
    Saturday, Jun. 8, 2019; 10 am-12 pm
    Come learn about the unique sport of crabbing here in Puget Sound. This class is perfect for the beginner or even the experienced angler. Local crabbing expert Larry Bucklin of Puget Sound Anglers Gig Harbor shares his secrets for filling your pots. Products, reading the water, and marking are just a few of the topics that will be discussed. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost $15. Must pre-register. Class size is limited.

    Partnership between Point Defiance Marina and the Tacoma Youth Marine Center The instructors are graduates of the Sea Scout Program and current volunteers. They teach campers how to rig their sail boats and kayaks, parts of the vessels, safety rules,water safety, navigation, knot tying, and tacking, gybing and kayaking techniques. Cost is $260.     Gain a basic understanding of the care and maintenance, trouble shooting and routine winterization of small- to medium-sized outboard motors.
     
  • Salt Water Fly Fishing
    Have you ever wanted to learn to Fly Fish? This class will introduce and develop your basic skills and fundamentals of Salt Water Fly Fishing. We will explore the different types of equipment, how to read water and learn basic techniques to contribute to your success.
