Pierce County grants landmark status to Browns Point Lighthouse Park
December 12, 2017
Status allows nonprofit Points Northeast Historical Society to compete for grants
Browns Point Lighthouse Park has once again achieved landmark status.
The Pierce County Council recently added the site to the Pierce County Register of Historic Places. This allows nonprofits like as the Points Northeast Historical Society, which advocates for preservation of the lighthouse and its surroundings, to apply for county grants to further that goal.
Browns Point Lighthouse Park is already on both the national and state historic registries. The county designation comes with a bronze plaque to be displayed on the property.
The Pierce County Council also approved the society’s application for an $11,700 preservation grant to restore the park’s generator building, near the lighthouse.
