When a Northeast Tacoma family approached Metro Parks about making a gift in memory of their son they worked with staff to find something that would be meaningful to the family and beneficial to the community.
On Sept. 22, 2007, family members gathered with the community to celebrate the grand opening of the new rock wall dedicated in memory of Mike Stone, an avid rock climber.
The center had been interested in adding a climbing wall, but didn't have the capital budget to construct the $28,200 project. With the generosity of the family's gift, the center was able to invest a small portion of 2005 Bond Improvement funds to reinforce the support wall and make the project possible.
The Rock Wall is available during all regular business hours (with the exception of private parties) to all members with an up to date and recognized belay certification.
Anyone under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult with an up to date and recognized belay certification. Any questions on belay certifications and climbing times, please reach out to Lincoln Smith at email@example.com
