The first parcels for this park, which is now 14 acres, were acquired in 1938. The community center was built in 1989.

Please note that the restrooms at this park are closed due to heavy and continuous vandalism. They are open when the field or shelter is rented. They are also open when the adjacent community center has large events.

2007-2011 - Portland Avenue Park Design Study Report, sports field drainage improved to correct problems that previously had kept much of the lower soccer field unplayable for most of the year, two uni-sex restrooms were built facing toward the more active areas of the park, and landscaping was designed and installed by our South/East Park Crew. Work was funded by the Parks Improvement Bond Measure, approved by the citizens of Tacoma in November of 2005.
RECREATION CENTER IMPROVEMENTS
2010 - Upgrades to the center included restored roofing assemblies, upgraded exterior cladding, upgraded main entry & restrooms, lighting upgrades, upgraded floor coverings and built new unisex restrooms.
