Ryan's Park is 5.1 acres.
The City of Tacoma transformed this 5.1-acre parcel into what was named Celebration Park in 1992. In 2009, the City Council renamed it Ryan’s Park. The name is in memory of the 7-year-old boy who was attacked and left for dead in 1989 in what was then an overgrown, vacant lot. The little boy survived to adulthood; his name, Ryan Alan Hade, became public after he died at 23 in a 2005 motorcycle crash.

2006-2012 - Playground equipment was replaced. Approximately 1 acre of turf was transitioned to mulch and native plants, the drainage ditch was modified to slow and reduce the flow of water leaving the park, existing paths were resurfaced with gravel, and park signage was changed to reflect the new name of the park. Work was funded by the Parks Improvement Bond Measure, approved by the citizens of Tacoma in November of 2005.
