Traffic Alert - Taste of Tacoma

Traffic Alert - Point Defiance Park
June 20 - 25, 2018

Road access to Point Defiance Park’s Pearl Street entrance will be limited from Wednesday, June 20, through midday Monday, June 25, to accommodate the Taste of Tacoma.

On Wednesday and Thursday visitors will notice trucks, trailers and forklifts near the Pearl Street entrance preparing for the event. The festival opens Friday at 11 am.

Point Defiance Park and its attractions will remain open. However, since the Pearl Street entrance will be closed visitors must use alternate routes to enter the park.

  • The main park entrance (Pearl Street)
Closed to vehicle traffic from Wednesday to noon Monday.

Only boat launch customers, ferry riders, Marina employees and Anthony’s patrons will be allowed to gain access down to the waterfront beyond Pearl Street/51st Street intersection.
  • Fort Nisqually and Zoo:
To access Fort Nisqually, Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, Owen Beach, Five Mile Drive and other areas, please use the Mildred Street Entrance. See map below.
  • Ferry and Marina Access:
Patrons going to the Point Defiance Marina, public boat launches, Anthony's Restaurant and the Washington State Ferry will be allowed access, but should expect congestion and slow traffic. There is no Taste of Tacoma parking available at the Marina.

The exit tunnel that connects the boathouse area to the main park exit will be closed starting Wednesday through midday Monday, so visitors to those areas will need to leave by the ferry access road.
