Tree Stories: Submit Your Story

Submit a Story and Enter to Win
We’re inviting you to share your story with the world. Did you ever climb a tree, plant a tree, have a favorite tree, or name a tree? Share your own personal connection to a tree -- share your “earliest tree memory” or “a significant tree memory.”

Submit stories through 12/17/17

How to Enter:
Simply post your story to our Facebook Event named “Tree Stories: Submit Your Story.” Please read the rules section below titled: “What comprises a valid entry?”

Prizes

  • Metro Parks Tacoma Gift Card
    Gift card is valid for use towards any recreation class, fitness class, camps, sports or can be used at the Point Defiance Marina, Fort Nisqually and Tacoma Nature Center. It is also valid for facility and picnic shelter rentals. Details about gift cards can be found at www.MetroParksTacoma.org/giftcard
     
    • 1st prize: $100 gift card

Contest Rules

What comprises a valid entry?

A valid entry consists of a tree story submitted to Metro Parks Tacoma in the discussion tab on the “Tree Stories: Submit Your Story” Facebook event, or as a comment under a shared post of the event/contest on Metro Parks Tacoma’s or Point Defiance Park’s Facebook pages.

The Submission must not contain material that violates, misappropriates, or infringes upon any law or regulation or the rights of any third party, including any copyright, trademark, or any rights of publicity or privacy, or any other intellectual property or proprietary rights;

The Submission must not disparage any person or entity; The Submission must not contain material that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene hateful, tortious, and/or defamatory;
The Submission must not contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age; and The Submission must not contain material that is unlawful, in violation of or contrary to the laws or regulations in any jurisdiction where Submission is created.

How often can a person enter?
Unlimited story submissions are allowed, however a person’s name will only go into the drawing one time even if multiple stories are submitted.

Contest period
The Contest ends on December 17, 2017 at midnight Pacific Time. All entries must be received by this day/time to be eligible to win one of the three top prizes.

Selection and Notification of Grand Prize Winners
After the end of the contest period (Sunday, December 17 at midnight) the names of people who submitted stories will be entered into a random drawing for the three prizes. Each person shall only have their name in the drawing one time, even if multiple stories are submitted. The first drawing will be for the third place prize, the second drawing for the second place prize and the third drawing for the first place prize. Two additional names will be drawn as alternates. The first alternate will be contacted if one of the top three placeholders do not claim a prize or cannot be reached within 14 days. The second alternate will be notified if another person does not claim a prize or cannot be reached within 14 days. If prizes are left unclaimed after these five people are attempted to be contacted, the remaining names will go into another random drawing and winners of the unclaimed prizes will be chosen.

Winners will be notified on or about December 17, 2017 at www.facebook.com/metroparkstacoma.

To claim the prize, the winner should follow the instructions contained in his or her notification.

Eligibility
Metro Parks Tacoma employees may submit stories but are not eligible to win.

You are providing your information to Metro Parks Tacoma and not to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. The information you provide will be used for this competition and future Metro Parks Tacoma promotions. All people and places tagged or named in a photo must be accurately tagged or named. Inaccurately tagged content will disqualify the submission.

By participating in this Contest, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules and represent that you satisfy all of the eligibility requirements below.

The Submission must not disparage any person or entity; The Submission must not contain material that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene hateful, tortious, and/or defamatory;
The Submission must not contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age; and The Submission must not contain material that is unlawful, in violation of or contrary to the laws or regulations in any jurisdiction where Submission is created.

For All Submissions: Unlimited submissions are allowed, but a person’s name will only go into the drawing one time. Multiple stories does not mean multiple contest entries. By submitting a story or uploading a photo, entrant grants to Metro Parks Tacoma a royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, create derivative works from, and display such Submissions in whole or in part, and otherwise exploit the Submission in all media now known or hereafter devised, throughout the universe, in any way Metro Parks Tacoma sees fit including, but not limited to, entertainment, instruction/education, promotional, advertising and/or marketing purposes. In connection with all rights granted herein, Metro Parks Tacoma has the irrevocable right to incorporate Submissions, in whole or in part, into other works, in any form, media or technology now known or hereafter developed. If necessary, entrant will sign any necessary documentation that may be required for Metro Parks Tacoma or its designees to make use of the non-exclusive rights entrant is granting to use the Submission. Proof of submission will not be deemed proof of receipt by Metro Parks Tacoma.

Identity of Entrant.
Stories submitted by fake profiles, group profiles, or page profiles will not be eligible. Submissions may only be made by individuals.

Prize delivery
If a Prize is returned as undeliverable or otherwise not claimed within fourteen (14) days after delivery of notification, the Prize will be forfeited and may be awarded to an alternate winner selected from all of the remaining eligible entries that meet the Judging Criteria. The Prize is not transferable. No substitutions or exchanges (including for cash) of the Prize will be permitted. The Prize is awarded “AS IS” and WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, express or implied, (including, without limitation, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose).

This Contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Any information you provide in connection with the Contest is to Metro Parks Tacoma and/or its sponsors/administrators and not to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. You understand that by using and interacting with www.facebook.com. www.twitter.com or www.instagram.com, you are subject to the terms, conditions, and policies that govern the use of those sites. You should therefore review the applicable terms and policies, including privacy and data gathering practices, before using or interacting with Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

General Release.
By entering the Contest, you release Metro Parks Tacoma and all Released Parties from any liability whatsoever, and waive any and all causes of action, for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the Contest or delivery, mis-delivery, acceptance, possession, or use of or inability to use any Prize (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses and damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light, whether intentional or unintentional), whether under a theory of contract, tort (including negligence), warranty or other theory.

Use of Winner’s Name, Likeness, etc.
Except where prohibited by law, entry into the Contest constitutes permission to use winner’s name, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram name, likeness, persona, hometown, and/or Prize information in all media now known or later devised throughout the universe in perpetuity for all purposes Metro Parks Tacoma deems appropriate – including, without limitation, for promotional and publicity purposes – without further permission or compensation.

Affidavit and Release.
As a condition of being awarded any Prize, except where prohibited by law, winner may (in Metro Parks Tacoma’s sole discretion) be required to execute a written consent, confirming Metro Parks Tacoma’s right to use such winner’s name, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram name, likeness, persona, hometown, and/or Prize information without further permission or compensation.
